If you have checked out loads of sites, you've probably stumbled upon some error message now and again. An error may occur in case the hosting server cannot process a request (Error 400), if you need to log in so as to see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you are not able to access a webpage (Error 403) or if a link leads to a file which isn't on the server (Error 404). Getting this sort of messages could often be irritating because the pages don't have anything in common with the actual Internet site. That’s why some hosting providers allow you to use your own error pages which will match the layout of your own site and which could have any content which you want - information why the error has taken place, a suggestion how to handle it or even some funny comment. This kind of function shall help you keep the visitor on the website regardless of the error and the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

The custom error pages feature is provided with each hosting package deal that we offer and you shall be able to swap the generic pages with your own with no more than several mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a given domain or subdomain from the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You can do this for every site hosted in the account separately, so that every group of custom made pages shall have the same design and style as the Internet site it is part of. If required, you may always go back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. Another way to set custom made error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you haven't done this before, you could simply copy the necessary code from our Help article on the subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of the semi-dedicated servers which we offer support custom error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of clicks in your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you will need to enter the links to the custom-made files through basic drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Keep in mind, you should upload them inside your account before that. In case you don't want to use this function at some point, you could disable it just as easily and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be shown when your visitors encounter an error. If you'd like to, you could also use an .htaccess file to allow the custom error pages. The file should include a specific line of code and a link for each error type and you can easily find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
