Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Since the data exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a third party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the choices are limited as you will not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. They're all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to install server-side software or to restart the machine or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

If you have a hosting account with our company and you would like to manage your content remotely using SSH, you could get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't include this feature by default, you could add it with a few mouse clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You can even choose what password you want to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared numerous Help articles where you can easily find all of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, along with examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide the possibility to access and manage them via SSH. If the package deal you have selected incorporates this function by default, you just need to enable the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the feature is listed as an optional upgrade, you can quickly include it via the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia CP and it'll be available within a minute. We have numerous help articles and educational videos regarding the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands which you can perform together with several examples to offer you a better perception of what you can do. If SSH is active, you shall also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload information safely and securely using any FTP application which supports the feature.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you buy a new VPS server from our company, it will offer full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to control everything using an SSH console. The feature comes by default with all plans, so you won't need to enable or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server shall be set up right after you get it and the instant you receive the Welcome e mail with the login info, you may connect via the server’s main IP address and begin working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions with regards to the commands which you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may install and run any app that can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software operating on it.
